Ochira Kali

Ochira Kali is the mock battle between two groups, to the sound of drums, in a waterlogged field called padanilam. This battle commemorates the historic battle, fought between the erstwhile Kayamkulam and Ambalapuzha kingdoms.

• It is not a typical temple festival; it is a battle re-enactment without idols, focusing on the worship of the universal consciousness (Parabrahma).

• Participants, including men and boys, perform a vibrant mock fight with sticks in the muddy, waterlogged ground, symbolizing the historic battles.

• The event is accompanied by the rhythmic, high-energy beats of traditional drums.
