Dedicated to Lord Shiva (Viswanatha) and his consort Parvati (Visalakshi), the festival represents a unique blend of Tamil Brahmin culture and Kerala's tradition.
Highlights:
Ratholsavam Procession: Giant, beautifully adorned chariots are pulled by devotees through the streets of the village.
Devaratha Sangamom: A special, rare meeting of temple chariots.
Music Festival: A week-long event featuring traditional Carnatic music and performances like Chenda Melam and Nadaswaram.
Traditionally held in the Malayalam month of Thulam (October/November), with the last three days being the most significant. The festival, often compared to the ancient temple festivals of Varanasi due to the river-side location, has been a significant cultural event in the Malabar region for centuries.
